Random Song Sampler #1 - Indie

So this is supposed to have an indie music theme. Initially, I was putting together a collection of indie rock songs but this is the finished result. So I'm calling it RSS instead of something like 'indie rock playlist' and I'm considering making it a weekly or monthly feature. In any case, I use definitions loosely when it comes to music so some of these songs or posts might not technically be 'indie' - or whatever else it's labeled as - by definition but sometimes I'm going to sacrifice accuracy for simplicity.

The Joy Formidable - Whirring When I get around to making a section featuring female vocalists this band will definetly be on it. This song and sound reminds me of Lake Michigan by Rouge Wave - another awesome song deserving of its own post. But it also sounds like Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on vocals. If you like this song, see Stars below.

Stars - Your Ex-Lover Is Dead Great lyrics. My favorite part is when the female voice comes in. That would be the voice of Amy Millan, a great solo artist herself. A good song by her is Skinny Boy (clearly I'm partial to those lyrics so I had to link to it.)

The Naked and Famous - Young Blood This track sounds like something you'd hear from MGMT. When I first heard it though, I thought it was by The Limousines because it sounds like their song Internet Killed The Video Star.

Grouplove - Colors Up-beat. Nice tempo. Worth a few listens. I actually heard this on mainstream radio a few months ago. Reminds me of another band I just can't remember at the moment...

Goldfrapp - Shiny and Warm Sounds a lot like Feist to me, especially the song My Moon My Man. Reminds me even of Emily Haines of Metric. I don't think this is indie at all but it's here now and that's where it will stay.

Miniature Tigers - Bullfighter Jacket A bit like a Vampire Weekend/Animal Collective soundstyle mash-up as well as the chorus of Rock & Roll Queen by The Subways. Check out another of their songs called Cannibal Queen if you like Bullfighter Jacket.

The Shins - Those To Come This song was inspired by another song called A Pillow of Winds by Pink Floyd. This is a very mellow song with pensive lyrics. The Shins have been around for quite a while and I don't have room enough in this post to link to all their good songs.

Beach House - Zebra When I first found this song I listened to it a million times - no exaggeration. Black and white horses were marching non-stop in my head. This song sound equally amazing during this live performance. I like the singer's smooth voice, even though it sounds kinda manly.
